Using Affiliate Programs to make money

Labels:

So here is probably one of the easiest ways to make a few bucks. The main idea behind an affiliate program is that you are advertising someone else's product or service and you get paid for each sale. There are thousands of companies offering these programs and have many different payment methods. Some pay by the click, or might pay for a lead but most will pay a percentage of the sale amount.
The way it works is that you sign up for the program with the company, they normally give you a choice in ad styles (text links, banners, buttons) to place on your site. Each ad has built in tracking to tell the company that you sent the customers there and they didn't come from somewheres else (so you get paid).
If you already have a site with traffic (cause you can't make money without traffic) then you can incorporate affiliate links into your site. The key to doing this is to sign up for programs that are tied to the topic of your site. You don't want to try to sell cat carriers on a Xbox 360 gaming site... that might not work to well..lol.
If you want to try something new like I have, then the term eMall will come in the picture.... An eMall is basically a directory of stores on the internet and are very easy to create. Just think of a real mall.. You have different categories and different stores in each.. The same can be done online with affiliate programs.. You could just advertise online businesses that don't pay a commission but where's the fun in that?? you want to get paid I hope!! lol.
The site design is simple I used the same category headings that are on the eBay website but you can search for other eMalls online to use them as a template.
Now for the affiliate programs... The easiest way to keep organized with affiliate programs is going to an affiliate network which has thousands of programs you can sign up for under one "roof" as people say.. With one user name and password and one commission account to worry about rather then halving to sign in to individual sites to check your commissions. Sites like Clickbank and Commission Junction are prime places to start!
The next step is filling in the categories with all the ads you can.... Try to separate each copmpany listing into its own section with a title and a little description about the site so it doesn't just look like a mess of banners. You could even put ratings by each company or have a comments thread. BE CREATIVE!
Now for the traffic, there are tones of webrings and free directories that you can submit your site to as well as pay per click programs like Google Adwords. So try your best with the traffic because thats all your going to need because the site will run itself!!
